A Bear Becomes the Garden, Oil on Canvas, 50 x 50″
A Bear Becomes the Garden
This piece grew from a place of stillness. It is rich with thick, expressive paint like cake frosting. The work expresses the relation between we who walk on two legs, those who walk on four and those who grow out of the ground. Her hind-side disappears into the green mush of earth, water and stone. Sunshine illuminates the blue mountains behind her, and yet her paws seem covered in a thick snow, spring blossoms above her back and deep oceans open out below.
This painting is a mirror, for she looks into your eyes. In this way, the bear who becomes the garden is just like the viewer who becomes the painting and the raindrops who become the sea.
